Forest Park

The Trakošćan forest park encompasses 450 hectares of protected natural area. Following a renewal in the spirit of romanticism in the mid-nineteenth century, the environs of the castle were shaped as a landscape park where lake, meadows, tree groups and shrubs make a harmonious horticultural complex. It is one of the most beautifully formed parks with rich vegetation, interesting views and panoramas, and offers a unique experience of unspoiled nature.

Gardens were partly developed from indigenouswood, while the larger part of the park was planted with various exotic tree species, giving the environment color and dynamics.

Because of specific characteristics of the climate, a change in vegetation may be observed. Thus, at the altitude of 250 m, the coniferous species, significant for higher altitudes, can be seen, while on higher slopes one encounters white-tropical species, characteristic for lower altitudes
