Castle Museum

Reconstruction and furnishing of the castle was performed several times during the nineteenth century, generally presenting one of the first restauration works in Croatia. The renovation changed both - the visual appearance of the castle and its function, turning a medieval military fortress into a residence of the Drašković family.

The permanent museum exhibition of the Trakošćan Castle was designed to maintain the original room function and not to look like a museum in classical way. In similar museums in Croatia, the furniture is exhibited alone or as part of a room, while in the Trakošćan museum the furniture appears at the same time as a museum collection and a part of an integral castle dwelling unit. The historicist furniture design was entrusted to skilled craftsmen and its high quality is best seen in the example of the small salon.
