Knight's Hall

The Knight's Hall is the most representative area of the Trakošćan Castle. This solemn space, renovated in the second half of the nineteenth century, brings one back to the romantic medieval time and evokes knightly virtues. Today, it serves a symbol of the military history of the Trakošćan Castle and the Drašković family.

The hall features a neo-Renaissance seating furniture and an open fireplace with a rich wooden decor. The primary function of the fireplace was not to provide heating but to create an atmosphere. Its paneling is decorated with the coats of arms of the Drašković and Latour families.

One can also see two whole-body knight armors standing in the very centre of the room. They date back to the nineteenth century. The walls are decorated with polearms dating from the end of the sixteenth and the seventeenth centuries. One can also see portraits of members of the imperial and royal Habsburg family along with portraits of the imperial generals. The portraits were commissioned by Ivan V Drašković. They still have their original oval wooden frames adorned with gold-plated acantus leaves.
